In partnership with local communities, DTE Energy is continuing its street light improvement program, investing in upgrading street lighting across the service territory.  The work is part of a $4 million effort in 2013 to improve street lighting service. Construction has begun and will continue throughout the fall months of this year.  These street lights are more energy efficient and will save money on your municipality's energy bill.  In addition, they are more reliable and will enhance safety in your community.

Communities involved are:

  • Bad Axe* - 30 street lights will be upgraded. Construction will begin mid-summer and continue into the fall months.
  • Clinton Township* - 9 street lights will be upgraded. Construction will begin at the end of summer and continue through the early fall months.
  • Dearborn* - 96 street lights have been upgraded. This project is completed.

If we are working in your community – here are some things to know:

  • The electric service to your home or business will not be affected.
  • We are working closely with your local officials to minimize disruptions during this major project.
  • In some cases, the work will be performed by contractors. The signage on their vehicles will identify these professionals as contractors for DTE Energy.
  • Multiple lights may be shut off temporarily while work is in progress. The poles to these lamps will be marked with a yellow wrap. Please do not report outages for street lights with yellow wraps.
  • Once de-energized, lights will be out approximately thirty-to-forty days while work is performed.
  • Door hangers will notify homes and businesses when work is beginning.
  • Check back to this webpage for monthly updates regarding the status of your community street lighting project.
