Utility-Owned Program

Let us install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on your institutional, commercial or industrial property. 

How it works:

Detroit Edison:Customer:
  • Engineers, builds, owns and maintains the PV system.
  • Receives all energy, capacity and environmental and/or renewable attributes generated by the PV system.
  • Build sites for 2010-2011 will be selected based on the Solicitation of Interest* conducted in April 2010. A second opportunity is planned for 2011.
  • Provides easement rights to locate the PV system on the property.
  • Receives annual income generated as an easement payment.

2010 Solicitation of Interest (Closed on April 29, 2010)

Contract Terms

  • Annual income is based on the size of the installation (in kW), with a minimum of $2,000 per year, provided as a credit on your Detroit Edison electric bill.
  • Customer will receive a one-time construction payment (via check) to cover any inconvenience during installation.
  • Contract* is valid for 20 years.

(100 kW site/project)

Annual Income (credit)

100kW x $2,000 per year x 20 years = $40,000

One-time Construction Payment

100kW = $1,000

 

Basic Requirements

  • Candidates must purchase energy from Detroit Edison for the duration of the contract. 
  • Proposed projects must be between 100kW-500kW.
  • The energy generated by the solar PV system will be separately metered and used by the facility.
  • The program in total is limited to $112 million, or roughly 15MW, during the years 2010-2015.

Preferred Sites

  • A facility with 15,000 square feet of unobstructed rooftop in good condition, or a similarly-sized ground-mount area.
  • Has high visibility in the community, either through location, significant visitor traffic, education or community outreach and recognition.
