High Bay Fluorescent
High Bay Fluorescent is a relatively new light source that is commonly used in warehouse and light-industrial applications as an energy-savings alternative to High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting. It also offers instant-on/instant-off capability, allowing for potentially greater energy savings.
- Incentives: $35–$150 for a fluorescent T8 or T5 replacing High Intensity Discharge lamps.
Energy Efficient Metal Halide
The new high-performance pulse-start metal halide lamp/ballast system can achieve as much as 30% increase in maintained efficiency. This new technology also reduces lamp warm-up and restrike time by as much as 60%.
LED
LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a semiconductor light source. They are now being used in applications as diverse as aviation lighting, automotive lighting, billboards, traffic signals, commercial/industrial and roadway lighting.
- Incentive: $0.08 per kWh.
- Incentive: LED Exit sign $12.50 per fixture.
Induction
Ideal for applications including high bay lighting such as parking lots or warehouses. These lamps have a very long life and are a great energy efficient replacement for High Instensity Discharge (HID) fixtures. Reduced maintenance costs, with less frequent replacement, offer additional savings.
- Incentives: $20-$55 for an induction fixture replacing a 175-400W HID.
T8 or T5 Fluorescent
High Performance T8 lamps are more energy efficient and have a longer life than old outdated T12 fluorescent lamps.
- Incentive: $5-$15 for a four lamp fixture
- Incentives: $35-$110 for a 3-6 lamp T5 HO fixture replacing a 250-1000W HID.
Electronic Ballast
Available in Instant, Rapid or Programmed Start, this transformer is used to provide the proper starting and operating electrical condition for one or more
fluorescent lamps.
Motion Sensor/ Occupancy Sensor
Primarily available in two different technology types, passive infrared and ultrasonic. These sense motion and will turn on the light for a pre-determined period of time. The sensor will re-set every time motion is detected.
- Incentive: $20-$50 per sensor
Non-Fluorescent
Fluorescent
T12 Fluorescent
The designation T12 refers to tubular and 12/8 of an inch, or rather, 1-1/2" in diameter. Linear fluorescent T12 lamps are primarily operated by inefficient magnetic ballasts. Most common 4' and 8' T12 linear fluorescent lamps are being discontinued and replaced with more efficient electronic ballasts and T8 lamps.

Choosing CRI and Kelvin Temp
The color of a light can be expressed as a temperature
in degrees Kelvin (k°). The Kelvin temperature scale
is the same as Centigrade, but starts at absolute zero
(0°K = -273°C).
T8 Fluorescent
High Performance T8 lamps are more energy efficient and have a longer life than old outdated T12 fluorescent lamps. T8’s are available ranging in color temperature between 3000 degrees Kelvin (k°) and 6500 (k°).
- Incentive: $5-15 for a 4 lamp fixture
Electronic Ballast
Available in Instant, Rapid or Programmed Start, this transformer is used to provide the proper starting and operating electrical condition for one or more
fluorescent lamps.
CFL
Compact fluorescent light (CFLs) are a great replacement for interior incandescent lamps. Today’s CFLs incorporate the best features of fluorescents; high efficiency, warm white light, last ten times longer than incandescents.
- Incentive: $1.50-$8.00 per lamp
LED
LED (Light Emitting Diode)-is a semiconductor light source. They are now being used in applications as diverse as aviation lighting, automotive lighting, billboards, traffic signals, commercial/industrial and roadway lighting.
- Incentive: $0.08 per kWh
- Incentive: LED Exit sign $12.50 per fixture
Energy-Saving Incandescent Lighting
Energy-saving, or halogen, incandescent light bulbs are about 25% more efficient and can last up to three times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. They are available in a wide range of shapes and colors, and can be used with dimmers.
Fluorescent
Incandescent
Incandescent
Often referred to as ‘The Edison’ or Standard lamp, incandescent light bulbs produce light by heating a filament wire to a high temperature until it glows. Because only about 10% of it’s energy is used for light (the rest is heat), the incandescent bulbs are slowly being phased out for more efficient lighting technologies, such as compact fluorescent and light emitting lamps.
