Energy Optimization Credits - EOCs / White Tags®

DTE Energy has teamed with Sterling Planet Corporation to offer a first in the nation pilot program for the creation and sale of a new product called Energy Optimization Credits – EOCs, trade named White Tags^®.

EOCs can be created any time an energy efficiency project or action results in the measurable and verifiable reduction in the amount of electric or natural gas used at a facility served by DTE Energy.

For the last three years DTE Energy customers have been able to collect Energy Optimization Program Rebates for these activities. Starting immediately, they will have the added option that instead of collecting a one-time rebate, EOCs can be sold over the next several years when energy savings continue to be validated.

Customers that are eligible to participate in this new limited time pilot are large commercial and industrial customers who are covered by the existing Energy Optimization Program. EOCs are measured in MWh for electric projects and MCF for natural gas projects and are expected to be sold in bundles of tens to thousands of EOCs per project. Therefore, projects need to be relatively large or multiple small projects bundled together in order to reach a scale of energy savings required by the program. Savings must be expected to continue for multiple years. Also, because EOCs require validation, there must be a reasonable expectation that the savings can be measured against a starting baseline to show the reduction.

During the limited time offer of the pilot, DTE Energy customers that do energy efficiency projects can choose to collect a rebate or sell EOCs / White Tags^® after making a careful financial decision about which product makes the most sense for them.
