Putting the focus on people

We value people – the people we serve, the people who work for us, and the people in the communities where we live and do business.
Our communities
At DTE Energy, we live and do business in a wide range of communities, primarily in Michigan where our utilities are located, but also in communities throughout the U.S. We believe healthy, vibrant communities are essential to the well-being and quality of life of our customers, employees and, ultimately, our company. And we do our part – collectively as a company and individually as employees – to help.
For us, community involvement takes on many shapes and forms. They include:
- Our DTE Energy Foundation. Every year, our Foundation contributes millions of dollars to support education, leadership, environment, development, human needs, diversity and other programs and organizations. Our Foundation’s impact often is greater by matching gifts made by our employees and retirees.
- DTE Energy Care Corps. Our employees have a long history of giving back time, resources and talent to the communities in which they live and work. They do this in countless ways – on their own and through company-supported initiatives. These include:
- Serving on boards and committees for various community-based and charitable organizations.
- Working on gardens planted on DTE Energy property to supply food for the hungry.
- Actively monitoring senior citizens who may be in need of help and connecting them to resources through our partnership with the Area Agency on Aging.
- Participating on our company’s Green Team to work on environmental projects on company properties and in our communities.
- Donating to charitable organizations serving our communities through our annual company-sponsored United Way campaign. We measure our employees' generosity by setting an annual goal - and then achieving or surpassing it.
- Electrical safety programs. Through a partnership with Eastern Michigan University, we teach electrical safety to thousands of young children per year with our free Summer Safety Town program.
- Sponsorships. We sponsor a variety of events, performances and teams that enhance the quality of life in the communities we serve.
- Political involvement. Our DTE Energy Political Action Committee provides our employees with an effective, convenient way to make financial contributions to candidates and to participate in the democratic process.
