We are a Michigan-headquartered company that believes part of our role is to help boost our state’s economy by providing reliable, affordable energy, and creating jobs and capital investment through business expansion, retention and attraction. After all, what’s good for Michigan is, ultimately, good for us.

Our company provides both electric and natural gas service to large areas of Michigan.  We use an efficient mix of coal, nuclear fuel, natural gas, hydroelectric pumped storage and renewable sources to meet our customers’ electricity needs. We own and operate natural gas storage fields in Michigan that enable us to buy natural gas when prices are low, store it, then distribute it to customers when prices are high – with all the savings passed on to our customers.

To meet Michigan’s anticipated future energy needs, we are exploring the possibility of building a second nuclear power plant. We are considering nuclear power because it is the lowest-cost producer of baseload electricity, produces no emissions, creates jobs and stimulates the economy. 

We also are developing sustainable energy alternatives that will power Michigan’s energy future and create jobs. These include utility-scale wind farms, solar energy facilities, and other innovative projects that use methane gas from landfills and cow manure to generate electricity. 

Our Economic Development team provides a wide variety of services at no cost to help businesses start up, relocate or expand in Michigan. 

 We also promote the unique capabilities that Michigan’s workforce, infrastructure and geography have to offer in serving the energy industry. We encourage and provide support to businesses exploring new opportunities in:
