We are committed to minimizing our impact on the environment, developing cleaner ways to produce energy, helping our customers use energy more efficiently, and partnering to enhance the environment for plants, animals and people.

Hands-on stewardship

Sometimes, the only way to clean up your corner of the world is to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty. At DTE Energy, we have a large group of employee volunteers who partner with community organizations to tackle projects that improve the environment in ways large and small. They are known as the Green Team. Whether it’s planting trees in an urban park, cleaning debris from a stream or creating habitats for local wildlife on industrial property, our Green Team and other employees are pitching in to make our communities more attractive and our environment a bit healthier.

DTE Energy is proud of the progress we have made at our facilities and in our communities, including:

  • Achieving Wildlife Habitat Council certification at 30 DTE Energy facilities. To earn certification, a facility must identify, plan and complete projects that convert or improve a section of property so that it supports native wildlife. These projects often involve the clearing and planting of shorelines and upland areas with trees, plants and grasses that provide food and shelter for birds and animals. Members of our Green Team play a major role in restoring and maintaining these habitats.
  • Providing supportive habitats for a number of endangered species.
  • Helping in the fight against invasive species.
  • Joining with numerous organizations and agencies in partnerships that preserve and enhance habitats and open spaces for public recreation and education.
  • Planting more than 20 million trees throughout Michigan to enhance parks, restore forests and to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
