When you participate in the Associate program, you develop your knowledge, skills and interests through three rotational assignments, each lasting approximately eight months. Participating groups, and types of development opportunities, are described below:
Business and Staff groups:
DTE Biomass Energy’s focus is on acquiring the gas rights to landfills to develop, own and operate landfill gas-to-energy recovery systems. These projects convert methane, a greenhouse gas, to renewable electricity, industrial fuel, or pipeline quality gas. Biomass Energy also invests in the emerging carbon market in the United States.
Example projects could include analyzing the competitive dynamics in the landfill gas-to-energy market, developing product line extensions and identifying commercialization opportunities for carbon credits.
DTE Energy Services' focus is on developing, owning and operating projects that provide energy products and industrial utility services to large industrial and institutional customers. Product lines include blast furnace coke and pulverized coal for integrated steel producers, pulverized petroleum coke for the pulp and paper industry, co-generated and renewable electric power, and on-site utility services such as compressed air, wastewater treatment, steam, hot and chilled water, and electrical distribution at manufacturing and commercial facilities.
Specific assignments could include identifying, screening and evaluating potential renewable power opportunities; structuring, negotiating and arranging debt and equity financing for the transactions; and formulating strategies for existing product lines and customers.
DTE Coal Services is one of the largest coal marketing and trading companies in the rapidly evolving North American coal industry. DTECS plans to grow across the coal value chain activities including: production, transportation, logistics, emerging technologies and financial/risk management. Coal Services’ goal is to aggressively expand its business over the next five years.
Example assignments could include formulating growth strategies for the company; identifying and screening potential coal industry acquisition candidates and conducting the valuation, due diligence, structuring and integration plans for such transactions; and developing and executing new carbon, coal and emissions strategies.
