The Associate Program is a strategic investment in developing future leaders for DTE Energy. We are seeking ambitious, energetic and quantitatively adept MBA graduates from leading business schools with an interest in high visibility roles in finance and strategy. A strong candidate possesses a broad range of financial and commercial skills, is capable of managing the details of complex transactions, and has the ability to work within a team-oriented environment in rapidly evolving markets.

Required core skills include a strong understanding of finance and strategy with excellent financial modeling skills; the ability to understand, articulate, and perform valuation analyses; the analytical ability to distill complex issues into their essential elements; and the ability to communicate the results to senior management. 

The Program

The Associates will develop their knowledge, skills, and interests through three rotational business unit assignments, each lasting approximately eight months. In their assignments, Associates work within multi-disciplinary teams formed to identify, evaluate, and execute energy-related transactions and strategies. Following the program, participants will transition into new positions based on their interests and company needs. 

Examples of specific assignments include:

  • Identifying and screening potential acquisition candidates
  • Conducting valuation, due diligence, structuring, negotiation and integration for an acquisition
  • Developing and negotiating the pricing and structure for an on-site co-generation project
  • Evaluating investments in new renewable energy technologies
  • Assisting in the arrangement of project financing for an investmen
  • Developing a marketing plan to grow an existing product line
  • Researching and assessing industry competitors

To ensure an effective transition to DTE, Associates will be assigned an advisor to familiarize them with the organization. Associates will also receive on-going training in valuation, problem solving, communication and industry-specific areas.

Recruiting

We visit college campuses in the fall of each year. Events include meet and greets, corporate presentations, networking nights, career fairs and interviews.
