Energy is critical to our quality of life and economic progress. DTE Energy is relied upon 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year to produce, acquire and deliver that energy, whether from traditional sources or from renewable and alternative technologies. That makes us, in a sense, a company that never sleeps.
At DTE Energy we believe that we have a greater responsibility. We believe that being part of a community means being involved in the fabric of that community. It means investing time, effort and resources in the communities we serve. It means helping customers and communities to thrive. The DTE Energy Foundation, the charitable arm of DTE Energy, is integral to that mission.
The need for community involvement and investment is even more acute against the backdrop of the current economy. DTE Energy has been affected as well. Nevertheless, at a time when a number of major philanthropic entities are retrenching, DTE Energy and the DTE Energy Foundation are carefully managing their resources to be able to maintain core, structural funding to support key community institutions as well as future-oriented educational, environmental, diversity and development initiatives. We cannot ignore the significant impact of the economic downturn on the families and households we serve. We are shifting some resources, we hope only for a short term, so that we can meet critical human needs as they emerge in the months ahead.
We have a long tradition of generously matching employee gifts to worthwhile institutions and providing grants in honor of major employee volunteer actions. And our employees spend thousands of volunteer hours each year making a difference in the lives of others. When all is said and done, being involved in the fabric of the community means being involved with people. It all comes down to people – extending help when needed, giving of one’s time, sharing one’s knowledge.
