Working with subsidiaries, industry partnerships and government agencies, we're developing the future of electricity generation and natural gas production and pursuing sustainable energy alternatives.

Detroit Edison currently purchases renewable energy from nine landfill gas-to-energy, four hydroelectric, and one waste-to-energy Michigan-based power plants. These purchases represent over 500,000 MWh (megawatthours), one percent of Detroit Edison's electrical energy sales.

Other DTE Energy Renewable Energy Projects

DTE Energy and its subsidiaries have demonstrated support for renewable energy generation through several projects over the last two decades.

Biomass: DTE Biomass Energy captures the methane in landfills and abandoned coal mines and converts it into a renewable source of energy that can generate steam, electricity, fuel for industrial processes or pipeline quality gas. Since 1995, DTE Biomass Energy projects have replaced more than 17 million barrels of foreign oil.

Solar: In 1996, Detroit Edison partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy and the Utility Photovoltaic Group to develop SolarCurrents®, one of the first programs in the nation that offered customers the choice of purchasing solar power through a "green" power rate.

Hydrogen: DTE Energy Ventures operates the Hydrogen Technology Park demonstration project in Southfield, Michigan.
