Construction of wind turbines and other renewable energy facilities takes time. In order to reach the aggressive goals set by the Clean, Renewable and Efficient Energy Act (PA 295 of 2008), DTE Energy will purchase substantial amounts of renewable energy from third party developers in Michigan who can provide this energy reliably, at reasonable costs, and within the required time frame. These projects could include landfill gas, biomass energy, solar energy, hydropower, wind energy, and other sources approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission.

Past Activity

On Oct. 23, 2009, Detroit Edison initiated a pre-qualification process to identify qualified respondents to work with the company on large-scale (50 KW and above) solar energy installations. Qualified respondents will be considered for inclusion in any future Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for the 2010 solar build.

On Aug. 18, 2009, Detroit Edison issued two Requests for Proposals (RFPs):

  • 75 MW of jointly developed operating wind generation facilities by December 31, 2011
  • Long term agreements for the purchase of capacity, energy, and renewable energy credits from approximately 106 MW of renewable energy resources

In May 2009, Detroit Edison issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential partners interested in jointly developing wind energy projects with the company. The RFI was intended to gauge the interest of potential and existing wind energy developers to enter into joint agreements with Detroit Edison to build Michigan-based wind energy farms capable of producing at least 75 MW of power by 2011.

In December 2008, Detroit Edison issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to purchase Michigan-based renewable energy credits. Qualifying renewable technologies include energy produced from wind, solar, landfill gas, biomass, anaerobic digesters, geothermal, hydroelectric dams, industrial cogeneration and gasification facilities.
