All of our Detroit Edison power generation facilities have met the certification requirements of ISO 14001. MichCon Gas Operations has two facilities certified, and plans to seek certification for twenty-one more in 2008.
ISO 14001 is an international quality standard for Environmental Management Systems. Environmental Management System (EMS) is the name given to the continual cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing, and improving that an organization follows to meet its environmental obligations. While each of our facilities already follows an EMS to ensure that we are in compliance with environmental regulations at the federal, state and local levels, ISO 14001 raises the bar.
To become ISO 14001 certified, our facilities voluntarily adopted higher standards for environmental management, documentation, training, corrective action and evaluation and are regularly audited to maintain ISO certification.
ISO 14001 environmental policies for our certified facilities and organizations are available online.
