Technology - today's and tomorrow's
As an energy company, we recognize our unique position at the intersection of economic and environmental progress. We are committed to meeting today's energy demands without sacrificing the needs of future generations. That means using today's technology responsibly with a diverse mix of fuels to provide reliable, affordable and environmentally sound energy while rapidly developing and deploying tomorrow's innovative energy solutions. We actively research and implement innovative solutions to meet society's growing energy needs. Working with subsidiaries, industry partnerships and government agencies, we're developing the future of electricity generation and natural gas production. From biomass to wind, from hydrogen technology to fuel cells, we're pursuing "green power" and sustainable energy alternatives.

Stewardship
Of course, good environmental stewardship starts with operating our power plants and facilities in a manner that meets or exceeds government standards. Proof of that lies in our many awards and certifications, such as ISO 14001, the international environmental management certification, and the Wildlife Habitat Council's certifications of our facilities as wildlife sites. Our interest in wildlife extends beyond providing habitat on our property and includes support for research to understand the needs of wildlife.

Climate change It also means protecting our employees and surrounding communities, and recognizing our responsibility to protect the environment within Michigan's borders and beyond. That's why we were one of the first energy companies to sign onto the US Dept of Energy's Climate Challenge Program in 1995 to aggressively manage our greenhouse gas emissions with landfill methane recovery systems, tree planting and other programs, and why we have made such significant strides in reducing air emissions as well.

Energy conservation & recycling That's also why we encourage our customers to conserve energy and why we recycle millions of pounds of materials every year. From paper to steel, and wooden crossarms to used oil, our "Waste Not, Want Not" ethic inspired us to become a charter member of the EPA's WasteWise program to reduce office waste.

Our actions
We practice what we preach; the DTE Energy Green Team of employee volunteers works on environmental projects on our property and in the communities we serve. From planting trees to beach cleanups, protecting eagles to recycling holiday cards, we support our communities' efforts to be cleaner, greener, healthier places to live. Our DTE Energy Foundation is "doubly green," providing environmental grants that help a teacher plant a butterfly garden in an outdoor classroom or enable a university to teach teachers about our valuable fresh water resources.

Our commitment
Our environmental vision has not wavered because balancing energy production and minimizing our impact on the environment is as important to the future of DTE Energy as it is to the future of society. Our commitment to sustainability means meeting today's energy demands without sacrificing the needs of future generations.
