Since 1994, DTE Energy has maintained successful Wildlife at WorkSM programs with the help of volunteer Green Teams - company employees, retirees and their families.
Twelve DTE Energy facilities have attained certification through the Wildlife Habitat Council’s Corporate Wildlife Habitat Certification/International Accreditation Program.
Certified sites (in chronological order) include:

- Ashley Mews Complex
More than 8,000 acres of DTE Energy property provides habitat for more than 60 local and migratory bird species and other wildlife. The company is actively pursuing wildlife programs and WHC certification at many other facilities.
The Belle River, St. Clair, River Rouge, Trenton Channel, Fermi 2 and Monroe power plants play an important role in WHC’s Huron to Erie Waterways for Wildlife Project through improved awareness and cooperative action to protect the region’s natural resources.
For many years, DTE Energy has hosted the WHC’s Great Lakes Regional Office and provided business guidance and financial support.
Awards and Nominations
- Monroe Power Plant was one of four nominees for the WHC Corporate Habitat of the Year in 2007. Monroe Power Plant was also nominated for the new Wings over Wetlands award, which recognizes efforts to provide a sanctuary or nesting ground for waterfowl.
- The River Rouge Power Plant was one of four finalists for the 2006 Corporate Habitat of the Year Award in recognition of the plant’s Soft Shoreline Restoration Project and other habitat enhancements.
- Both the Trenton Channel Power Plant and Sibley Quarry were honored with WHC’s prestigious Corporate Habitat of the Year Award in 2004.
