The Henry Ford Health Systems (HFHS) EAP is a free and confidential* counseling and referral service for the DTE Energy employees, retirees and members of their immediate families. DTE Energy and all local unions recognize that a wide range of personal issues can substantially affect an employee's work performance. While an employee may overcome personal problems independently, in most cases, professional assistance is helpful or necessary in finding solutions. Employees are encouraged to seek help before work is negatively affected.
The HFHS EAP counselor is committed to helping you with a variety of problems such as:
- Drug and Alcohol problems
- Eating Disorders
- Elder Care
- Emotional distress
- Family illness
- Financial concerns
- Marital difficulties
- Parenting problems
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Your participation in the EAP will not jeopardize your job or opportunities for advancement.
The HFHS EAP counselors are also available to consult with supervisors and management personnel regarding employees who may need an EAP referral.
Yes. Confidentiality* is assured when you use EAP services. Counseling information does not become part of an employee's personnel file, and counseling information is not released beyond the professional team without the employee's consent.
*Confidentiality cannot be maintained where intended crimes against self, another employee, company property, child or spousal abuse may occur.
If you see a HFHS EAP counselor on your own time as a self-referral, this information will not be shared with your supervisor. In the case of a referral by a supervisor based on an employee's job performance, the HFHS EAP counselor will let the supervisor know if the employee kept the appointment, whether the employee agrees to accept the help that was offered, and whether progress is being made to resolve the problems. No information concerning the nature of your problem will be shared without your written consent.
Yes, for the initial visit. However you must make arrangements with your supervisor to excuse you from work. For on going treatment the Company expects EAP services to be rendered on the employee's time.
A HFHS EAP counselor can be contacted Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, at 888.EAP.HFHS (327.4347). In case of emergency call 313.468.2000.

Henry Ford Health System EAP counselors are still available to assist you, but may need to conduct the meeting in an in-depth telephone conversation. The HFHS EAP counselors will provide follow-up counseling with you just the same as if you had attended a face-to-face meeting.
No, there is no charge for your use of EAP services. The HFHS EAP counselors may work with you to assist you in resolving your difficulties, depending on the nature of the problem. If you are in need of a specialized community resource or would prefer seeing an outside counselor, a referral will be made. Outside consultations or treatment may involve a fee, some of which may be covered by company health insurance.
