Reasonable Suspicion And Post Accident Drug And Alcohol Testing Notification

The Medical Services Department is now responsible for the scheduling of Reasonable Suspicion and Post Accident drug testing. Doug Green is the Designated Employer Representative (DER) for DTE Energy, which includes Detroit Edison and MichCon, excluding Fermi. Supervisors are responsible for notifying Mr. Green when they have an employee suspected of drug and/or alcohol abuse on the job or following a job-related accident.

Before testing is conducted Mr. Green will determine whether the situation requires testing under the Department of Transportation (DOT) federal mandates or company policy and what type of testing is warranted, DOT or non-DOT. For testing to be authorized, the situation must either meet regulatory mandates or be required by company policy.

Post Accident testing is conducted when the circumstances surrounding an accident meet the criteria set forth in the DOT regulations or company policies. An incident does not necessarily need to involve a motor vehicle to qualify as an accident (e.g., explosions).

Reasonable Suspicion testing requires two supervisors and/or the employee's immediate supervisor and the DER to agree that the employee's behavior and actions support testing.

Donald Hinkson, Medical Services Coordinator,  will assist any leader in determining if any employee(s) is exhibiting behavior that suggests a need for drug and/or alcohol testing. Please contact Mr. Hinkson for his assistance at 313.475.3460.

For all Post Accident and Reasonable Suspicion testing, please call Donald Hinkson at 313.475.3460.

If you have any questions concerning drug and alcohol testing, please contact Wes Fortson at 313.972.9036.
