DTE Energy monitoring Japanese events; Fermi 2 is safe and secure
DTE Energy, along with the entire nuclear energy industry, continues to closely monitor the situation with the Japanese nuclear plants. We expect to eventually have complete, accurate information, but that will take time.
Please be assured that Fermi 2 is designed to withstand the most severe earthquake potential in our area, as well as other natural phenomena that occur in this area. This is based on more than 100 years of historical data.
In fact, Fermi 2 took the full force of a tornado last summer. The reactor and associated cooling systems operated flawlessly. We were back on line shortly after we cleaned up and repaired surface damage to some buildings.
