DTE Energy understands that there are times when you may have trouble managing your energy bill payment. When those times happen, and you fall behind, we want to work with you to help avoid service shut off. The Shutoff Protection Plan (SPP) can help.
What is SPP?
The SPP is available to all residential customers regardless of income, and can provide year-round protection from shut off if plan payments are made.
How does it work?
DTE Energy will calculate monthly payments for your outstanding account balance by dividing your account balance into equal protions that allow you to pay down the balance over time. Next we will estimate your future energy usage based on your past energy consumption. The combination of these two amounts are added to be your new monthly payment.
SPP is designed to help you manage your energy payments with a monthly payment plan. The past due balance is divided in equal installment payments to be made over a period of time. The monthly payment amount is calculated based on the past due balanace and projected future bills. Enrollment in the Shutoff Protection Plan requires an initial down payment. The amount of the down payment will affect the monthly payment amount. Making a larger down payment will result in a lower monthly payment amount.
How do I get started?
If you are eligible for SPP, you will see a link to "Enroll in Shutoff Protection Plan" in your "My Account" screen. We will provide three options fordown payment and monthly payment amounts so that you can choose the option that best fits your needs. It is important that you make the plan payments on or before the agreed due dates each month to avoid being removed from the plan.
