What do I have to do before I start gas service?
Your electricity service must be started before DTE Energy can start your natural gas service.

Do I have to be home when the gas meter is disconnected?
Please be sure to contact us at least 10 work days in advance of your move.
If your gas meter is inside your home, arrange for an adult (18 years or older) to be present to give us access to your meter.
If your gas meter is outside your home, you do not need to be present.
If the new residents have requested that service be turned on in their name prior to the date of your disconnection request, your gas meter will not be disconnected. In this case, DTE Energy will simply transfer names on the requested date.
Note: If we cannot get access to an inside gas meter, you will be responsible for the gas use at the residence until the service is transferred out of your name. To ensure you don’t receive an unexpected extra bill, please arrange for an adult to be home for your scheduled disconnect date and time.

I don't have a Social Security number or a state driver's license. Can I still request service online?
We must have positive identification to open an account in your name. DTE Energy requires this information to protect our customers from identification fraud. If you cannot provide a Social Security number, driver's license number or state identification number, please visit a DTE Energy Customer Office to sign an application for utility service and provide picture identification.
