DTE Energy is launching SmartCurrents^SM, an integrated utility smart grid solution. We are developing a high-tech electrical infrastructure that will include upgraded meters, electrical circuitry and, the addition of “smart home” technology. DTE Energy is one of the first utilities in the United States to begin this massive upgrade.

The SmartCurrents program:

• Involves the installation of upgrades to electrical circuits and advanced meters that use radio transmissions to wirelessly exchange information between customers and DTE Energy.
• Enables the future launch of “smart home” technologies and products. These new capabilities will allow customers to monitor their electric use and make choices that save money and protect the environment.

SmartCurrents work is under way in Southeastern Michigan!

In communities throughout Southeastern Michigan, DTE Energy crews are adding new equipment to several of our electrical circuits and substations.

The work includes replacing overhead power lines, replacing utility pole cross arms and insulators, and adding equipment that enables us to remotely operate the electrical system.

At the base of this new system is the advanced meter, which will pave the way for Michigan’s energy future.
