A Comprehensive Energy Audit is performed by a certified energy auditor.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this program, MichCon must be your primary heating fuel supplier, OR you must have all electric heat with Detroit Edison as your primary energy supplier. The audit and/or equipment purchase(s) must occur on or after January 1, 2010.

What's included:

  1. Custom Energy Savings Calculations
The Auditor estimates potential energy savings based on your home’s current condition and equipment.  Insulation levels and type; window type and condition; lighting; age, working condition, and efficiency of major systems and appliances like furnace/air conditioning, water heater and refrigerator all impact your home’s energy efficiency and household operating costs. Your Auditor will recommend specific improvements to your home and estimate the resulting energy savings.
  2. Custom Payback Analysis
In order to help you prioritize your energy efficiency improvements, your Auditor can provide a payback analysis for the recommended improvements. The payback will show you approximately how long it will take for the improvements to pay for themselves based on estimated energy savings.
    blower door test
  3. Blower Door Test
Air flow through your home can significantly impact your comfort, air quality and heating and cooling costs.  A blower test measures air flow and heat loss and can be used to pinpoint air leakage in the home.  A blower door test is a diagnostic test designed to accurately measure the air tightness of your home and locate sources of air leakage

Option:  Ask your auditor about the installation of low-cost energy savers like:

  • CFL light bulbs
  • Low flow shower head
  • Faucet aerator
  • Pipe insulation
  • Programmable thermostat

Receive a $75 rebate on the cost of your Comprehensive Audit now and an additional $75 rebate on the Audit cost when you install qualifying energy installation measures within 12 months.

How do I claim my rebate(s)?

  1. Select a certified Energy Auditor from our Energy Efficiency Directory
  2. Complete your audit
  3. Determine whether or not you will be installing any of the additional rebate-eligible improvements*
  4. Complete - or have your contractor complete - the rebate form*
  5. Submit the form and required paperwork within the timeframe indicated on your rebate application

Note:  You may still claim rebate credits for eligible energy efficiency measures you have installed, even if you have chosen not to complete an audit.  For more information, see Insulation and Weatherization rebates.
