Michigan Saves is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making energy improvements easy and affordable. Michigan Saves was established as part of a grant
from the MPSC and works with a network of partnering lenders to offer the Michigan Saves Home Energy Loan Program. The loan program is designed to provide additional financing programs for commercial, institutional, and renewable energy projects. Michigan Saves provides lenders default support and maintains a network of authorized contractors that promote Michigan Saves loan programs to customers.
Home Energy Loan Program
This program provides financing for all kinds of home energy efficiency improvements—from deep energy efficiency retrofits to quick replacements of old or failing equipment. Homeowners can either choose from a list of pre-qualified measures or get a home energy assessment. The program is available only through a Michigan Saves authorized contractor.
Home Mortgage Program
An ideal time to make energy-saving home improvements, such as a new furnace, insulation, sealing leaks, and windows, is when you’re buying or refinancing a
home. The Michigan Saves Home Mortgage Program makes it easy and affordable to package these and other improvements into a home mortgage or secured renovation loan.
For a limited time, DTE Energy heating fuel customers (natural gas or all electric houses) may receive a rebate of up to $2,500 at the time of closing when they include energy efficiency measures in a new Michigan Saves Home Mortgage.
Through the Home Mortgage Program, customers can access federally-backed mortgage products that allow the cost of energy upgrades, such as new windows, insulation, furnace, and even solar panels, as well as other home renovation projects. DTE Energy, Michigan Saves, and Prospect Mortgage all work together to ensure the process is smooth and streamlined, and to guide customers through each step, from filling out the paperwork to choosing their upgrades.
Your Michigan Saves authorized contractor will perform an energy assessment of your home, and show you what measures can save you the most energy and money. All participating contractors are dedicated whole-home specialists that understand how to make a home safe, comfortable, and energy efficient. They also go through special training and screening in order to assist customers through the whole process, start to finish.
The first step is to fill out a pre-qualification application. Go to michigansaves.org, and follow links to the Home Mortgage Program page, and the pre-qualification application.
