Whether you're moving out of or into DTE Energy's service area, we hope you'll find this guide a useful tool to make your moving day stress-free.
Quick tips
- Do you want to get an estimate of what your annual energy bill might be at your new home? Your realtor may be able to provide that information. If you are moving into DTE Energy’s service area, you can also try using our Home Energy Center to get a rough estimate.
- A normal billing period covers 30 days. Your first bill at a new address may cover more, or fewer, days based on the date your service started relative to the end date of your normal billing period. That means your first bill may be higher or lower than your normal monthly bill will be.
- Avoid unhappy surprises. Make sure you contact us at least 10 business days in advance of your move to transfer or disconnect service that is in your name.
If you are a DTE Energy gas customer (MichCon) and your meter is located inside your home, an adult (18 years or older) must be home to let us in to read and disconnect your meter. If we are unable to access your meter, you will continue to be billed for gas use at your soon-to-be old address. If the new residents have requested that service be turned on in their name prior to the date of your disconnection request, your gas meter will not be disconnected. In this case, we will simply transfer names on the requested date.
