2010 Calendar of Events

Mercy Education Project in southwest Detroit needs volunteers to assist girls in grades 1 – 8 whose reading and/or math skills are below grade level.

Monthly information sessions/tours are offered for prospective volunteers and others interested in learning more about the organization. Upcoming dates and times are:
Wednesday, Sept. 15, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and
Thursday, Sept. 16, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

DTE-Singers are looking for retirees who are interested in singing in a group.

Holiday Meals on Wheels Program

Help make the holidays brighter for homebound seniors in metro Detroit by volunteering to pack and/or deliver food on Dec. 23 and 25. It's a great way to demonstrate the holiday spirit of giving.
We need at least 50 Volunteers on Dec. 23 from 8 a.m. to noon to package cold food items that will be delivered with hot meals on Christmas Day. The packing station is located at Valley Services, 1980 Bagley in Detroit. Thank you. The Dec. 23 volunteer opportunity is filled.
We need at least 50 Volunteers on Dec. 25 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. to add hot meal items to the cold packs for delivery later in the morning. The packing station is located at Valley Services, 1980 Bagley in Detroit. Thank you. The Dec. 25 volunteer opportunity is filled.
We need at least 100 Volunteer teams on Dec. 25 in assigned shifts from 8 a.m. to noon to deliver meals to homebound seniors in metro Detroit. Each route has 5-10 stops and takes approximately one hour to complete. You may choose to deliver to more than one route, if needed. Meals will be picked up and delivered from one of the follow locations:

Volunteers must register by Dec. 3.

Through this effort we will serve 5,700 seniors in Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Harper Woods, and the five Grosse Pointes.

You can donate to the Holiday Meals on Wheels program, too. Every $5 donated buys one meal for a homebound senior and The DTE Energy Foundation will donate $25,000 to the Holiday Meals on Wheels program.
