Safety

• Stay at least 20 feet away from downed power lines and anything (fences, water puddles, etc.) they are touching. Keep children and pets away from these hazards.
  
  
• Never assume a wire is dead. Energized wires do not always spark.
  
  
• Never try to move a downed power line! Wait for emergency personnel.
  
  
• If you smell gas, leave the area immediately. Call your local natural gas provider from a safe location. The MichCon Gas Leak Hotline is 800.947.5000.
  
  
• You may be eager to remove storm debris from your yard, but please use extreme caution. Energized wires may be hidden in the debris. Wait until power line repairs are completed before tackling this task.
