SOUTHFIELD, Mich., September 24, 2020—Farbman Group, a leading full-service real estate company, announced today the firm has committed to investing in DTE Energy’s MIGreenPower program, one of the nation’s largest voluntary renewable energy programs. Farbman Group CEO Andrew V. Farbman made the announcement.
"As an owner and operator of hundreds of buildings across the State of Michigan, Farbman Group is always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact,” said Farbman. “Our company is extremely proud to be one of the first businesses to invest in DTE Energy’s MIGreenPower program, resulting in a significantly reduced carbon footprint through wind and solar energy generated right in our own backyard.”
MIGreenPower is a voluntary renewable energy program that helps DTE electric customers reduce their carbon footprint and support the development of additional wind and solar energy projects in Michigan. Enrolled customers can customize their participation and attribute up to 100 percent of their energy use to local wind farms and solar parks.
“We are honored that the Farbman Group, one of the Midwest’s leading commercial real estate companies, has enrolled in MIGreenPower to help meet its sustainability goals,” said Trevor Lauer, president of DTE Energy’s electric company. “We know that our customers are looking for ways to reduce their impact on the environment – and MIGreenPower is a cost effective and efficient means to gain more access to renewable energy. Strong customer – both business and residential – participation in MIGreenPower is accelerating renewable energy development in Michigan, which helps our economy and reduces carbon emissions. DTE will invest an additional $2 billion in renewable assets over the next three years. To date, our clean energy projects have created more than 4,000 Michigan jobs.”
Farbman Group is among the first collection of notable Michigan businesses in the MIGreenPower program, which includes companies like Ford, GM, The University of Michigan and The Detroit Zoo. The collaboration will make a significant positive impact on the 25 million square feet of buildings owned and operated by Farbman Group through the transition to 100 percent renewable energy.
“As one of the state's preeminent professional organizations, we applaud Farbman Group's participation in DTE's MIGreenPower program,” said Robert Magee, executive director at The Engineering Society of Detroit. “ESD is proud to be a Farbman Group partner and to have our offices located in one of their buildings. Transitioning to clean energy sources will help us protect the environment. The clean energy sector also offers several different career opportunities for the engineers of tomorrow.”
Farbman Group continues to put a critical focus on reducing its carbon footprint throughout the company’s portfolio of projects across the Midwest. For more information, visit www.farbman.com.
