Public invited to virtual open house on April 19 to learn how the company is modernizing and improving grid reliability, and retiring its coal-fired power plants with PRIDE
DETROIT, April 7, 2022 – DTE Electric, Michigan’s largest electric utility company, is offering the public an opportunity to learn about the company’s energy planning process and provide input on the company’s long-term plans to transform its mix of generation sources to ensure the reliable, affordable, and clean energy that will power Michigan’s future.
The final in a series of Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) public open houses will be held virtually on Tuesday, April 19. Community members will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide comments about how DTE plans to meet Michigan’s future energy needs in advance of the IRP filing in October 2022 with the Michigan Public Service Commission. At this meeting, participants will hear how the company is modernizing and improving grid reliability, and addressing the needs of employees and impacted communities as it retires its coal-fired power plants with PRIDE (People, Respect, Integrity, Dignity, Engaged). Past open houses examined DTE Electric’s CleanVision Plan, the Integrated Resource Plan process, renewables, emerging technologies, energy efficiency, demand response, and the MIGreenPower voluntary renewable program. Recordings and transcripts from past open houses may be found at dtecleanenergy.com.
“DTE is committed to achieving net zero carbon and greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 so it is imperative that we carve the right path forward,” said Trevor Lauer, president and COO, DTE Electric. “Getting our customers’ input early in the process ensures what matters most to them is taken into consideration as we work to achieve the right balance of energy sources that will provide cleaner, affordable, reliable and secure power to our 2.2 million customers for decades to come.”
