DTE Energy offers small businesses an opportunity to win $5000 in energy efficiency improvements

Energy Efficiency Makeover Contest runs Sept. 18 – Nov. 8

DETROIT, Sept. 18, 2024 — DTE Energy, Michigan’s largest provider of energy efficiency savings, announced today that the company’s annual Small Business Energy Efficiency Makeover Contest is now open for entries. The contest will award three businesses $5,000 in energy efficiency improvements and can be entered at DTEEnergy.com/makeover. Businesses that implement energy efficiency improvements can reduce energy use, create more energy efficient operations, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve comfort for employees and customers and lower energy bills.

“Small business are the foundation of the communities where we live and serve, and we are proud to announce the kick-off of our annual contest to help businesses become more energy efficient,” said Carmen Welch, director of energy efficiency, DTE Energy. “Each year this contest receives more and more entries, which tells us there is a strong interest in energy efficiency and our business customers need help. The contest provides the opportunity, expertise and funding for a business to kick start their energy efficiency journey or take it to the next level.”

DTE will select five finalists to receive free energy assessments from a DTE energy advisor and then three winners will be chosen from the finalists.  Previous contest winners have used their winnings to complete energy efficiency projects like replacing inefficient lighting with LED’s, upgrading an HVAC system and installing a new beer cooler, all with help from DTE energy advisors.

“We started improving the energy efficiency of our office by replacing some old tube lights with LEDs,” said Joseph Dixon, president, Dixon & Associates and winner of 2023 Energy Efficiency Makeover Contest. “The cost of upgrading systems was a barrier to do more, so this award was really helpful in making more upgrades that help to reduce our energy use.”  Dixon & Associates are financial planners and registered representatives offering securities and advisory services through Independent Financial Group, LLC (IFG), a registered broker-dealer and investment advisor.
