Multi-Unit Dwelling

Enhance – and differentiate – your multi-unit dwelling with EV charging

By installing EV charging stations at your multi-unit dwelling, you’ll better position it to:

  • Differentiate yourself with valuable EV chargers in a competitive market
  • Attract and retain, and provide greater value to, residents
  • Potentially increase rent and property values
  • Add a new revenue stream
  • Achieve environmental goals and establish your company as an environmental leader

EV charging stations also help you make an impact on our local economy since EVs run on fuel produced in Michigan, by Michiganders!

Choosing the Right Charging Station

EV charging options for multi-unit dwellings include Level 1, Level 2 and DC Fast Charger (DCFC). View Business EV Charger Rebate.

Level 1

  • Connect to a standard, three-prong, 120-volt outlet
  • The charger is portable and comes with the tenant’s EV
  • One hour of Level 1 charging provides about two to five miles of range, depending on the vehicle model

Level 2

  • Connect to a four-prong, 240-volt outlet, like the one that powers a clothes dryer
  • Charging can be hardwired, which requires a charging station with a conduit, instead of a plug
  • One hour of Level 2 charging provides about 10 to 30 miles of range, depending on the vehicle model

DC Fast Charger (DCFC)

  • An EV must be fast-charging enabled for DCFC
  • Additional electrical infrastructure is required, however it might be the most practical application for complexes that do not have dedicated, assigned tenant parking spaces
  • A DCFC can charge an EV in 30 minutes or less
