Creating a cleaner energy future is a major part of our core mission at DTE Energy. You can see that dedication in our growing use of renewable energy and strategic energy efficiency programs. Another way we prove our commitment to a greener, more vibrant Michigan is through conservation.
Working side-by-side with environmental partners, we help preserve natural resources, maintain our state’s animal and plant populations as well as strengthen vital habitats. We also create environmental policies to make our facilities inviting to wildlife and conduct remediation projects to restore former energy generation sites.
Seven DTE Electric power plants and 26 DTE Gas facilities have been designated as Michigan Clean Corporate Citizens. This recognizes each facility’s high level of sound environmental management throughout their operations.
As the largest energy company in the Great Lakes state, we know the importance of protecting our waterways. That’s why DTE is dedicated to using water responsibly and efficiently. See how DTE is reducing its water usage.
The Wildlife Habitat Council is a nonprofit, non-lobbying organization that helps corporations manage their property for the benefit of wildlife. Thirty DTE Energy facilities have attained certification through their Corporate Wildlife Habitat Certification/International Accreditation Program. DTE Energy also maintains successful Wildlife at WorkSM programs with the help of our Green Team volunteers and our environmental partners.

Environmental policies for the Belle River, St. Clair, River Rouge, Trenton Channel, Fermi 2 and Monroe power plants ensure each facility plays an important role in the Wildlife Habitat Council’s Huron to Erie Waterways for Wildlife Project. This project generates awareness and cooperative action to protect the region's natural resources.
Over 8,000 acres of DTE Energy property is habitat for more than 60 local and migratory bird species, plus other wildlife. We are actively pursuing wildlife programs and Wildlife Habitat Council certification at many of our other facilities.
The DTE Energy Green Team is a company-wide organization of employees, retirees, family members and friends who volunteer their time to work on environmental projects on our properties and in the communities we serve. Some past Green Team Events include:
Annually, the Green Team sponsors a Fish-N-Fun Day with the City of Detroit Recreation Department at the company's Delray Fishing Pier. Every January, the Green Team helps handicapped students recycle old holiday greeting cards into new cards to sell the following holiday season.
