To prepare for your interview, please read the job description thoroughly before your interview and understand what the job entails.

During your interview, we ask about your knowledge, ability, skills and experience related to the job. Interviewers are looking for responses in the format of a Situation, Task, Actions and Result or STAR. For each response, please plan to provide specific details.

Situation/Task

With the context of the job in mind, think of a specific example from your previous work history. Let us know what you were doing and why you were doing it. What was the context or the specific assignment? Also provide a time and place.

Actions

Provide details about your actions. What exactly did you do and how did you do it? The interview team will want the most details during this part of your example.

Result

What was the outcome or result? What was the impact of your actions? Did anything change in your job due to your actions?

Interview Tips & Expectations

  • Be prepared to provide multiple examples demonstrating each competency during your interview.
  • Avoid talking about general processes. Highlight how you accomplish tasks and goals in your current role. Interviewers are interested in learning about how you work, not the actions of others.
  • Expect the interview team to ask you a lot of follow-up questions. This allows the team to best understand and evaluate your skills against those needed to perform the job successfully. It also puts you in the best position to highlight your skills and put your best foot forward.

The goal is to show the interview team you are qualified and ready for the job.

We offer reasonable accommodations for qualified people with disabilities who are applicants for employment. Please email a DTE Human Resources representative to request assistance or an accommodation. We will be happy to help you.

To minimize everyone’s risk from COVID-19, we continue to have as many employees as possible working remotely.

In early spring 2022, we gave 1,000 employees the option to work on site at our Detroit headquarters a few days per week. We will learn from their experience to continuously improve our approach to hybrid work environments, and we plan to gradually expand the on-site work option to more employees throughout May and June.

We expect most of DTE’s 5,000 employees who have been working remotely will continue to do so most of the time. We are empowering each group of employees to choose the work location and hours that enable them to provide the best service to our customers, communities and each other.

If you successfully applied, you will receive an email confirmation if you are not moving forward as a candidate for the position. Please continue to search for new opportunities or sign up to receive email job alerts matching your interests.
