At DTE, we know you expect and deserve reliable electricity delivered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The investments we’ve made to build a stronger electric grid, coupled with less extreme weather last year, led to a nearly 30% decrease in the number of outages our customers experienced and a 70% decrease in outage duration in 2024, compared to 2023.
DTE’s 2025 investment plan accelerates these reliability improvements and generates cleaner energy for our customers – all while keeping residential bills as low as possible. Explore our power improvements map to see how we're investing in your energy future.
DTE is rebuilding the grid to improve reliability.
DTE is continuing to build the electric grid of the future. In the past five years, DTE has invested more than $5 billion in the grid—strengthening infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid, replacing aging equipment and trimming trees. Our teams are in the field improving reliability for our customers every day.

The smart grid of the future will be powered by cleaner energy, and like all big transformations, the shift to cleaner energy won’t happen overnight.
We’re accelerating our clean energy journey with our landmark CleanVision Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), approved by the MPSC in 2023. Projects that support this clean energy transition will help end our use of coal by 2032, allowing DTE to meet our net zero decarbonization goal by 2050, while meeting the State of Michigan’s clean energy mandate.
These projects include the conversion of the Belle River coal-fired power plant to natural gas and the development of the Trenton Channel Energy Center, expected to be the largest battery storage center in the Great Lakes region when construction is complete.

DTE offers affordable payment plans and assistance programs.
While we invest to make these transformational changes to the grid, we’re also focused on doing everything in our power to manage our operational costs and keep customer bills as low as possible. Over the past five years, our bills have only grown by 2.4% because of our strong focus on controlling our costs and efficiently operating our power plants.
We know that any increase in bills impacts our most vulnerable customers the most, which is why we offer energy assistance programs and advocate on their behalf at the state and federal levels.

DTE’s 2025 investment plan balances the need to invest in a modern grid that delivers the reliable and cleaner energy our customers expect and deserve with a focus on keeping customer bills as low as possible.
On April 24, 2025, DTE Electric submitted an investment request of $574 million to the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC). This is the start of a 10-month review process by the MPSC and any customer bill increase will not go into effect until the final order is received in approximately February 2026.
DTE has submitted a robust proposal that focuses on accelerating our four-point plan to improve reliability for our customers while continuing the company’s clean energy journey to meet the company’s and the state’s decarbonization goals.
The MPSC, with input from intervenors, will ultimately decide which programs DTE should prioritize. Historically, the final order from the MPSC has resulted in approximately 60% of the original request.
Last year, DTE customers saw a 30% decrease in the number of outages and a 70% decrease in the duration of outages compared to 2023. We must continue to invest to deliver the safe, clean and reliable energy our customers demand and deserve.
DTE’s four-point plan to improve the electric grid includes adding technology and smart devices, modernizing existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid, and trimming trees. The company is also investing in cleaner sources of energy. This includes converting our Belle River Power Plant to run on natural gas instead of coal, building more wind parks and solar farms, and developing battery storage – all located right here in Michigan.
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) regulates DTE’s electric rates through a regulatory proceeding called a rate case. This process is open to the public and all documents submitted by DTE (such as reports, testimony, exhibits) are made available to the public. In addition, individuals can submit a comment to the MPSC and organizations can go a step further by formally “intervening” in the case – this allows the organization to provide their own testimony and exhibits on what they agree or disagree with in DTE’s rate filing. Dozens of organizations regularly intervene in DTE Electric and Gas rate cases.
The MPSC is expected to make a decision in February 2026. DTE Electric customers will see the new rate reflected on their bills approximately two weeks after the MPSC makes its final decision.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. Our teams use advanced technology to inspect and maintain our pipeline system, ensuring safe, uninterrupted service. For customers who have an indoor gas meter, we are relocating these meters to the outside. This allows for DTE or first responders to quickly and safely access the natural gas meter should a need arise and for DTE to inspect the meter without requiring entry.

Through our Gas Renewal Program, we’re replacing 4,000 miles of aging cast iron and steel pipelines with corrosion-resistant materials. This is helping to ensure consistent, reliable service for the 1.3 million customers who depend on natural gas every day. These upgrades also benefit the environment by eliminating leaks in legacy pipelines, ultimately reducing DTE Gas’ annual greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 500,000 metric tons CO2e – an amount equivalent to taking 116,000 gasoline-powered vehicles off the road each year.

DTE offers affordable payment plans and assistance programs.
Natural gas remains one of the most cost-effective energy sources available. DTE customers save more than $1,000 annually compared to other home heating options. Plus, we don’t mark up the price of natural gas—what we pay is what you pay. By locking in prices up to three years in advance and storing gas underground, we protect you from market volatility and keep costs stable. And when we expand service to more Michigan communities, we distribute costs more broadly, which helps keep bills affordable.
On November 13, 2025, DTE Gas submitted a proposal to the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to invest in critical upgrades to Michigan’s natural gas infrastructure. This marks the start of a 10-month review process, with any changes to customer bills pending a final decision in October 2026.
The proposal focuses on replacing aging pipelines, enhancing safety systems and ensuring reliability for the 1.3 million customers who rely on natural gas every day. These upgrades are essential to maintaining a safe, reliable energy system as demand grows and infrastructure ages.
For 175 years, DTE Gas has provided safe, reliable and affordable natural gas to our customers across Michigan, and we remain committed to continuing to provide that same reliable service for years to come. This investment request will allow the company to continue to modernize its infrastructure and safely serve our customers across Michigan with the reliable natural gas service they expect and deserve. The request is the start of a 10-month review process, and DTE Gas customers will not see a change in their base rate until late 2026.
Today’s investment request supports critical upgrades to modernize our infrastructure, helping to further reduce emissions and enhance system safety, so our customers continue to have the energy they need when it matters most. Even as we invest in the future, we remain focused on keeping natural gas affordable. DTE’s residential natural gas customer bills are among the lowest across cold-weather states in the Midwest and Northeast.
