Frequently Questions about Outdoor Lighting Rebates

DTE commercial and industrial customers in good standing are eligible for lighting rebates. Your project must be installed at a DTE-serviced facility. Customers in multifamily buildings or residential complexes are not eligible for this program but can participate in the DTE Multifamily Program.

Yes, select lighting measures are eligible for new construction projects. When applying, choose "new construction" as your project type in the online application. Multifamily property owners should apply through the  DTE Multifamily Program instead.

.

Not all LEDs qualify. Only DesignLights Consortium® (DLC) listed products and ENERGY STAR® certified products are eligible. Standard screw-in LED bulbs aren't eligible, with the exception of mogul base (E39) lamps.

Complete the online rebate application and include all required documentation. You’ll need to include itemized invoices, manufacturers’ specification sheets and any other applicable documentation for the equipment installed.

A reservation application is strongly encouraged for all lighting projects and is required for certain projects, including custom ones. A reservation pre-approves your rebate amount and holds funding from DTE’s limited rebate pool. Starting your project before receiving your reservation letter could disqualify you from receiving a rebate.

The following outdoor lighting upgrades require a reservation before you start work:

  • Exterior LED fixtures 500W and above
  • Exterior/garage LED lighting (24/7 operation)
  • Networked lighting control (NLC) systems paired with exterior LED lighting
  • All custom outdoor lighting measures

Submit your reservation application online before any work begins, including removing old equipment. DTE has up to 14 days to conduct any required pre-upgrade inspections. Once approved, you'll receive a reservation letter confirming your funds are held. From there, you have 90 days to complete your project or until November 30, 2026.

Submit your application online along with required documentation including itemized invoices and manufacturers' specification sheets. You're not required to use a participating contractor to complete your project. Please note that some projects require a reservation.

Your final application must be submitted within 60 days of project completion or by November 30, 2026 — whichever comes first. If you received a reservation, your project must be completed within 90 days of your reservation letter or by November 30, 2026.

Yes, you can apply for rebates on multiple energy efficiency upgrades in a single application, and electric and gas rebates can be combined if you're a DTE customer for both. A few exceptions apply: only one lighting control rebate is allowed per space, and rebates for networked lighting control systems generally can't be combined with other lighting upgrade rebates. Check the rebate catalog or contact a DTE Energy Advisor to confirm which upgrades can be combined for your specific project.
