Cooling equipment accounts for about 10% of energy use in commercial buildings, driving some of the highest demand during hot summer days. DTE HVAC rebates can help you upgrade to high-efficiency air conditioning and smart controls to improve comfort, support indoor air quality and reduce energy waste.

DTE commercial and industrial customers in good standing are eligible for HVAC rebates. Your project must be installed at a DTE-served facility. Multifamily customers are not eligible for this program but can participate in the DTE Multifamily Program.
Yes — for eligible commercial and industrial customers, select measures qualify for new construction projects. When applying, choose "new construction" as your project type in the online application. A reservation is recommended but not required. Multifamily property owners should apply through the DTE Multifamily Program instead.
Not all equipment qualifies. Chillers must be one of four types: air-cooled reciprocating, air-cooled screw or scroll, water-cooled screw or scroll or water-cooled centrifugal. Each must exceed ASHRAE 90.1-2019 baseline efficiency levels and must not be purchased for backup or redundancy. A new chiller addendum must be completed and submitted with your application. All HVAC equipment must be AHRI-rated. See the Rebate Catalog for more information.
Complete the online rebate application. You'll need to include itemized invoices, manufacturers' specification sheets, and any other applicable documentation for the equipment installed.
A reservation application is strongly encouraged for all lighting projects and is required for certain projects, including custom ones. A reservation pre-approves your rebate amount and holds funding from DTE’s limited rebate pool. Starting your project before receiving your reservation letter could disqualify you from receiving a rebate.
Submit your reservation application online before any work begins — including removing old equipment. DTE has up to 14 days to conduct any required pre-upgrade inspections. Once approved, you'll receive a reservation letter confirming your funds are held. From there, you have 90 days to complete your project or until November 30, 2026.
Submit your application online along with required documentation including itemized invoices and manufacturers' specification sheets. You're not required to use a participating contractor to complete your project.
Your final application must be submitted within 60 days of project completion or by November 30, 2026 — whichever comes first. If you received a reservation, your project must be completed within 90 days of your reservation letter or by November 30, 2026.
Yes, you can apply for multiple energy efficiency upgrades in a single application, and electric and gas rebates can be combined if you’re a DTE customer for both. Check the rebate catalog or contact a DTE Energy Advisor to confirm which upgrades can be combined for your specific project.
