Refrigeration Rebates

Upgrade to Energy Efficient Refrigeration and Save

Energy efficient commercial refrigeration equipment uses about 20% less energy than standard models, helping your business lower operating costs while maintaining product quality and food safety. Because refrigeration runs 24/7, even small efficiency gains add up fast — delivering savings around the clock, every day of the year.

Limited time offer: In addition to the standard rebate get an extra 20% rebate on eligible refrigeration products. Through Nov. 30. Funding is limited, so don't wait.

Frequently Asked Questions about Refrigeration Rebates

DTE commercial and industrial customers in good standing are eligible for refrigeration rebates. You must be a DTE electric customer to qualify for electric-powered refrigeration measures. Customers in residential buildings are not eligible for this program but may be able to participate in the DTE Multifamily Program.

A reservation is strongly encouraged for all refrigeration projects and is required for certain measures, including ECM motor and anti-sweat heater control upgrades. A reservation pre-approves your rebate amount and holds funding from DTE’s limited rebate pool. Starting your project before receiving a reservation letter could disqualify you from receiving a rebate.

Submit your reservation application online before any work begins — including removing old equipment. DTE has up to 14 days to conduct any required pre-upgrade inspections. Once approved, you'll receive a reservation letter confirming your funds are held. From there, you have 90 days to complete your project or until Nov. 30, 2026.

Yes. Rebates for door gaskets are calculated per linear foot and apply to all qualifying leaky gaskets on doors 5 feet or taller. A site survey documenting the location and number of leaky gaskets is required at the time of reservation. Standalone ice and specialty coolers do not qualify, and rebates are available once every four years per door.

No. Rebates are only available for installing new strip curtains on walk-in cooler or freezer doorways where none currently exist. Replacement of existing strip curtains and installations on display cases are not eligible.

Submit your application online along with required documentation including itemized invoices and manufacturers' specification sheets. You're not required to use a participating contractor to complete your project.

Yes, you can apply for multiple energy efficiency upgrades in a single application. For example, if you’re upgrading your LED case lighting and adding night covers in the same project, both can be included. Contact a DTE Energy Advisor at (855) 748-2525 or email saveenergy@dteenergy.com to confirm which upgrades can be combined for your specific business.
