Charger Rebate

Up to $2,500 per Level 2 port

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • Have an active DTE electric business account that is in good standing and up to date on payments.
  • Be located at a workplace, shopping destination or other parking facility that is open and accessible to the public.
  • Have the right to install, own, operate and maintain EV supply equipment on the project site, which must be located in DTE’s electric service territory.

You must also agree to:

  • Maintain new EV supply equipment for at least 5 years.
  • Install a separate meter to power the equipment.
  • Keep each installed charger available and operational 97% of the time.

Steps to Apply

  • Decide where you’d like to install the EV charger(s), which can be any charger that is UL Listed and ENERGY STAR certified.
  • You can use our directory to find an electrician, but you are not required to use an electrician from our directory and can instead use any licensed electrician.

The company receiving the rebate check must complete:

The Initial Application form is necessary for you to receive approval for the rebate. You can find the Initial Application form, submit your application and track progress by registering for PowerClerk.

You will receive an email confirming that your application was submitted. DTE then reviews your application and sends an approval or rejection email or follow-up questions to you.

Note: If your charger installation is dependent on receiving an EV Charger Rebate, do not proceed to Step 5 until you’ve received formal approval from DTE.

Your site must have a dedicated meter solely for the purpose of powering your EV Chargers.

A Work Order to increase electrical capacity or add an additional EV meter requires the following five documents:

  1. Request for New Electric Service form.
  2. Copy of property deed from the property owner.
  3. Site plan with existing utilities highlighted and proposed transformer location (Final location to be decided by the customer and DTE Planning.)
  4. DTE's load sheet form. Your electrical contractor will help complete the form.
  5. Riser diagram. Your electrical contractor will help complete: see sample diagram.

Once you’ve completed these documents, Email the files to NBREQUEST_Account@dteenergy.com and Copy evinfo@dteenergy.com with your site address in the subject line. (i.e., Work Order Needed for 1 Street Name, City, MI ZIP Code).

You will receive an email from DTE Planning with your Work Order number within three to five business days.

Typically, within six business days after you receive the Work Order number, DTEs Planning Team will contact you by email to gather more information about your project. You can then begin with step 5 found on Commercial Charger Installation to complete your new or upgraded service with DTE.  

When your installation is complete and the chargers are in service, take pictures of them. You will submit:

  • Pictures of the installed, functioning chargers.
  • Account or Meter number associated with the EV installation.
  • A copy of the final electrical invoice for installed chargers.
  • EVSE information (such as model numbers, serial numbers, or IDs) may be used to verify network connectivity.

Sign in to your account at PowerClerk to submit the documents.

After you've submitted the Rebate Form, you will receive an email from DTE confirming your form was received.

  • DTE will review your Rebate Form.
  • You will receive a rebate approval email. 
  • DTE processes your rebate and mails you a check.
