Energy Efficiency Rebates for Schools

Put More Dollars Back in the Classroom

Energy is one of the largest operating expenses for all types of schools. That means every dollar saved on utilities is a dollar your district can put toward students, teachers and programs. DTE Energy rebates help schools make energy-efficient upgrades more affordable — from modern LED lighting to high-efficiency HVAC systems that keep learning environments comfortable year-round.

DTE Energy electric or gas that are in good standing are eligible for rebates. Your project must be installed at a DTE-served facility, with one application per location. New construction and major renovation projects are also eligible for select measures.

Rebates are available for a wide range of facility improvements including LED lighting upgrades, high-efficiency HVAC systems, commercial refrigeration equipment, vending machine controllers and new construction projects. If your improvement results in a permanent reduction in energy use and does not fit a standard measure, it may qualify for a custom rebate.

Reserving your spot early protects your rebate since funds are limited. Once you receive your reservation letter, you have 90 days to complete your project or until Nov. 30, 2026, whichever comes first.

There's no cost to apply. Rebates are paid back to you after your project is complete and your final application is approved — reducing what you spent on the upgrade. The amount you receive depends on the equipment you install and the efficiency improvements it delivers.

Yes. Flexible financing options are available to help cover the cost of approved upgrades. You can choose short-term financing as low as 0% APR or long-term options up to 25 years with no upfront costs. Many facilities use rebates and financing together.
